The world at the moment now buys more clothes then ever before, so a complete change in the worlds clothing consumers is unlikely. Something that helps in almost all cases, is education. We need to educate people on the problems caused by fast fashion because i believe a major part of the problem, is people being unaware that half of it even exists.
The fashion industry needs to start finding some new eco-friendly ways to make textiles and clothes in general. They could do this by using sustainable fibers, such as bamboo or hemp [1]. Some companies are already doing this though, but they are difficult to find. Which is another solution, the consumer needs to become more conscious of where there clothes are coming from and who made them. People need to stop supporting big companies that produce their clothes from below minimum wage workers in poor work environments. The only down side to not buying from these big companies is that clothes will often cost more, that is a reason why people haven't yet moved away from fast fashion.
One of the easiest solutions that most people can do is try and keep your clothes for as long as possible. If you keep the essentials you will find less need to buy more clothes, and you will create less waste. The solutions always involve at least a bit of compromise but it is worth it. something to take into account also is that if one spends more on an article of clothing it will often be better quality and last longer, so you wont need to get rid of it so quickly.[2] The consumer simply needs to become more conscious, because if they don't, nobody will.
